Santa Clarita, Calif., December 16, 2016 – Americans work long hours and keep busy schedules. For dog owners, being away from home for long and extended periods presents many challenges. Who will feed, walk and care for their four-legged friend? These anxious owners are turning to doggy daycare centers to fill the void. In fact, the increased demand for dog daycare has presented lucrative opportunities for pet lovers who want to start a business. To meet this increased demand, Animal Behavior College (ABC) is offering a new Short-Term Program, Doggie Daycare in the first quarter of 2017.

“Many pet owners consider their dogs a part of the family,” said Steven Appelbaum, president and CEO of Animal Behavior College. “Their dogs are a priority and will seek out the best services and products available. This presents an ideal opportunity to start a doggie daycare or other pet services business.”

ABC’s Doggie Daycare Short Term Program is online and teaches aspiring entrepreneurs the mechanics of opening a doggy daycare. The course covers everything from time commitment, expectations and tips on how to decide if a pet services career is right for you, to pet industry trends and profit projections.

There are 77.8 million dogs owned in the U.S., according to the American Pet Products Association. In 2015, pet owners spent $60.28 billion on their pets with $5.41 billion on grooming and boarding services. By the end of this year, it is estimated that Americans will have spent $5.73 billion on these services. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the employment outlook for animal care and service workers is expected to increase 11 percent through 2024. With the need for pet services driving demand, opening a doggie daycare or other animal-related business is ideal, especially for career changers.

ABC offers certification through its Dog Obedience Program (DOP) , Grooming Instruction Program (GIP) and Veterinary Assistant Program (VAP). In addition, ABC offers Short-Term Programs, including, Pet Massage, Pet Nutrition and Diet, Pet Sitting and Dog Walking, The Art of Selling and Teaching Private Lessons, and Training Shelter Dogs.
