Santa Clarita, Calif., March 12, 2012 – Animal Behavior College (ABC) announced it has added a Pet Nutrition and Diet course to its Continuing Education Programs (CEP) roster. This is the fifth program to be added in addition to Pet Sitting and Dog Walking, Training Shelter Dogs, Teaching Private Lessons and Cat Management and Training.

The Pet Nutrition and Diet curriculum offers pet professionals information to help the lives of all animals to become healthier and more vital. Topics including basic nutritional needs, commercial pet food regulations, various types of diets (dry, canned and raw food, supplements, etc.), and how food can play an influential role in a pet’s behavior are covered. The course was written by Dr. Ian Billinghurst who is a Veterinary surgeon, nutritional consultant and producer of raw foods.

Steven Appelbaum, President of ABC said, “Pet obesity has become an epidemic and continues to widen according to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP). 54 percent of the nation’s pets are overweight according to their latest survey. The Pet Nutrition and Diet CEP provides students with an opportunity to make a huge difference in the lives of animals. This is an outstanding program for aspiring dog trainers, veterinary team members and groomers all of whom are asked questions about nutrition from their clients.”

The Pet Nutrition and Diet CEP is available to all of ABC’s alumni. Upon completing this online course, pet professionals will have invaluable knowledge to help them and their clients make important decisions each day regarding their pet’s health and which foods they choose.
