Santa Clarita, Calif., January 26, 2012 – Steven Appelbaum, President of Animal Behavior College (ABC) will be a featured speaker at the Groom & Kennel Expo in Pasadena, February 3-5, 2012 and he will talk about why now is a great time to enter a career that has a tremendous amount of potential in any market. ABC will join nearly 100 major pet care manufacturers and distributors who will offer designing demonstrations and information. Ashlie Herring and CeCe Koplin, grooming experts from (ABC) will also be on hand to discuss pet groomer career opportunities.

Appelbaum has been a professional animal trainer for 30 years and on Saturday, February 4th he will teach groomers how to read and deal with fearful and potentially aggressive dogs from 9-10 am. “This is valuable information that might prevent dog bites and allow groomers to effectively groom dogs that they currently turn down, said Appelbaum. Appelbaum has focused for several years on teaching groomers dog behavior basics. Additional topics will include the proper restraining of loose dogs, how to safely remove dogs from their crates and kennel syndromes. Herring, ABC Program Operations Manager, has worked in the Veterinary field for over 10 years and she will offer important information about disease control and prevention in the salon from 2-3pm. Koplin, Lead Program Manager for the Grooming Department at ABC, will discuss the basics of Gentle Touch Grooming techniques which helps bring down stress levels in the shop for both the dog and the groomer from 11am to noon.

ABC’s innovative Certified Grooming Instruction curriculum teaches a broad range of topics for dog as well as cat grooming including health and safety, grooming tool techniques, and the basics of bathing, brushing, drying and clipping. Also included in the coursework is a section on business building which is an essential tool for students who are looking to open their own grooming business. Since launching its program in 2010, ABC has helped almost 900 students pursue careers in the animal grooming industry! In addition to their Certified Pet Groomer courses, ABC also offers Dog Training and Veterinary Assistant certification programs.
